Our historical society has been fortunate to secure a 34-acre property in the center of Alturas, CA, for the development of a railway park. The site has been heavily neglected with overgrown vegetation and possess significant wildfire threat to the community. We propose a volunteer day to decrease standing vegetation and remove trash. We also plan to continue work at the Modoc transitional age youth (TAY) center, planting native species and improving defensible space. The TAY center is located on Main Street, adjacent to the 34-acre property in a historical NCO structure and will someday also be part of the park.
