Welcome! We’re excited to invite you to participate in Doggy Day Out at Houston Humane Society. 🐾 Doggy Day Out gives dogs in our care the chance to spend a day outside the campus exploring the world with someone from our community. These outings help dogs relax, experience new environments, and show off their personalities — all of which can help them connect with potential adopters. Participants will pick up a dog from our campus and spend the day together however they choose. You might go for a walk on a trail, visit a dog-friendly patio, stop by a pet store, or simply relax together at home. The goal is to give the dog a fun, enriching day while helping them enjoy new experiences and meet new people. Our team will provide everything you need for the day, including a Doggy Day Out backpack with supplies, treats, toys, and a leash. All you need to bring is your time, energy, and love for dogs. 💛 Doggy Day Out is a wonderful way for community members to spend meaningful time with a dog while helping them decompress and shine outside the kennel environment. 🐾 Program Details 📍 Houston Humane Society – Main Campus 14700 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77053 📅 Available: Sunday–Thursday (excluding holidays) ⏰ Pickup Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM ⏰ Drop-off Time: Before 4:00 PM the same day 📍 Where to Meet Pickup takes place at the Intake entrance near Riley Road. This door remains locked to the public during pickup hours, so please wait outside and contact our team so we can assist you. 🐕 What You’ll Do Participants will: - Spend the day with one of the dogs in our care - Provide exercise, enrichment, and companionship - Explore dog-friendly places together (such as pet stores, dog-friendly patios, trails, parks, or even relaxing at home for a cozy day together) - Help introduce the dog to new environments and people while promoting their adoption Your day is flexible — the most important goal is helping the dog relax, explore, and enjoy a day full of positive experiences. Please note: Dog parks and dog-to-dog meetups are not permitted during Doggy Day Outs. 🐾 Physical Requirements - Comfortable walking and handling a large dog (some may weigh 100+ lbs) -Ability to walk outdoors and manage a dog on leash - Activities may take place indoors or outdoors depending on your plans 🐾 What We Provide Your Doggy Day Out backpack will include: - Leash and collar or harness - Treats and toys - Poop bags - Collapsible water bowl - Houston Humane Society or “Adopt Me” bandana for the dog 🐾 What to Bring - Weather-appropriate clothing - Closed-toe shoes - Water for yourself and your dog - Sunscreen or bug spray if needed Participants represent Houston Humane Society while out with the dog, so we ask that everyone dress appropriately and respectfully while participating in the program. 🐾 Weather Plan Doggy Day Out programs may be affected by weather conditions. If there is heavy rain, thunderstorms, or other severe weather, Doggy Day Out will be cancelled for the day to ensure the safety of both participants and dogs. If there is light rain or a light sprinkle, Doggy Day Outs will still take place as scheduled. If weather conditions in your area prevent you from participating, please let our team know. We will be happy to reschedule your Doggy Day Out for another day. 💛 A Note from Our Team Many participants enjoy Doggy Day Out so much that they come back weekly or bi-weekly to spend time with the dogs.
