LA Chapter Meeting: Ocean Friendly Gardens Night at Kuruvungna Springs
Join Surfrider LA for an engaging evening in the garden with a panel of experts. We are honored to be hosting this event at Kuruvungna Village Springs, a beautiful and culturally significant space stewarded by the Gabrielino-Tongva Springs Foundation.
The highly developed landscape of LA County displaces massive volumes of rain, funneling billions of gallons of runoff down to the ocean every year. This leaves our watershed dehydrated and our beaches contaminated with bacteria, nutrients, and other pollutants that put public health at risk. To protect clean water and safe beach access for all people, we need upstream, nature-based solutions to restore the functions of healthy watersheds. Ocean Friendly Gardens (OFGs) use rain gardens, bioswales, and native plants to filter stormwater runoff, treating rain as a valuable resource to grow cooler, greener neighborhoods.
Our panelists will break down the challenges facing our watershed, the innovative projects we have done at the Springs, and how you can make a difference — whether you're a longtime volunteer or showing up for the first time.
