Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy Coastal Clean Up Day
For Coastal Cleanup Day 2026, our volunteers will be collecting trash and removing weeds in all four of our marshes, covering up to 160 acres. HBWC has been participating in CA Coastal Cleanup Day since our founding days, and the first Coastal Cleanup Day occurred in the same year that HBWC obtained its nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in 1985! We host monthly volunteer events on the 3rd Saturday of every month. These community events help us tend to our 190 acres of land, including restored coastal salt marshes and dunes. Activities include trash pick-up, weed removal, planting native plants, and tending to our native plant nursery. Our normal community events bring in between 20-60 volunteers. However, on Coastal Cleanup Day, we have exceeded 100 volunteers in the past. This is a great opportunity for our community members to visit the marsh and learn about their local watershed and the many species that depend on these habitats (including us humans)! Last year on Coastal Cleanup Day, 120 volunteers removed 130 lbs. of trash and 287 lbs. of non-native weeds. We expect to achieve similar results this year.
