Food Exploration and Discovery (Food ED) Project
Food ED holds an annual Spring Care Day during Earth Month to refresh some of the school garden spaces that our Fellows teach students TK-12 in; these garden spaces include food gardens, fruit tree orchards, native plant and pollinator gardens, and bioswale areas that increase rain capture. Volunteers would help remove past season plants to make space for new fruits and vegetables, prune, weed, and maintain existing plants, add soil to raised beds and spread mulch for weed suppression, and other garden maintenance tasks. Volunteers would also learn about how to sow seeds, plant new plants into garden spaces, and receive safety training and education around common garden tools. Volunteers of all ages are always welcome, and we often have low-physicality-friendly ways to support too, such as preparing native pollinator plant seed packets.
