SLO Climate Coalition Vehicle Electrification Event
"Our climate action project focuses on accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation through a dynamic community initiative for National Drive Electric Week, featuring an interactive EV Showcase at the Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival and one of Santa Maria's Downtown Fridays. The primary anticipated climate outcome of this project is a direct reduction in local greenhouse gas emissions and tailpipe pollutants by displacing internal combustion engine vehicles with zero-emission alternatives. By allowing community members to explore and test-drive electric vehicles (EVs) in a relaxed, pressure-free environment, the project directly combats misinformation and ""range anxiety,"" converting passive interest into active EV adoption. On the day of, we will track the number of attendees who visit the EV Showcase booths, the number of test drives completed, and the number of distinct EV models available for test drives. We will also facilitate a brief pre- and post-drive survey to understand where attendees are starting from in their EV consideration and how their likelihood of purchasing an EV shifts after the test-drive experience. To achieve these outcomes, we will need volunteers to supply electric vehicles for the EV Showcase event. Acting as trusted grassroots ambassadors, these volunteers will educate participants by sharing real-world insights on EV ownership, charging, and incentives, ultimately utilizing peer-to-peer advocacy to enthusiastically encourage community members to make their next vehicle electric. In addition to the electric vehicle owners, we will utilize volunteers to facilitate the pre- and post- survey and work the booths where participants can learn more about current rebates and incentives when purchasing an EV and receive resources to do so.
