KIDSHA - Kids Helping LA Community Greening Event
"Our project brings kids and families together to give back to the parks in our community. We are a volunteer crew that enjoys getting outside, working together, and making a visible difference in the places our families use and enjoy. We will spend time removing invasive plants, planting, spreading mulch, picking up trash and debris, and cleaning up areas that need some extra care.
These simple, hands-on activities can make a meaningful difference for the environment. Removing invasive species gives native plants more room to grow and helps support local wildlife and pollinators. Planting and caring for healthy vegetation can improve soil, reduce erosion, conserve water, and help parks better handle heat and drought. Healthy plants and soils also capture and store carbon, making restoration work a small but meaningful part of local climate action.
Our volunteers will work together during park cleanup and restoration days. Families and kids will take on age-appropriate tasks, from pulling invasive weeds and collecting litter to spreading mulch and planting native plants. We want these days to be more than just volunteer hours: we want them to be opportunities for families to learn about nature, work as a team, and feel proud of the positive change they are making in their own community.
Our goal is to leave the parks healthier, cleaner, and more resilient than we found them. We hope to see stronger native plant growth, healthier soil, better habitat for pollinators and wildlife, and less waste in our shared green spaces. Most importantly, we want to help kids understand that they can be part of the solution to climate change. By taking care of the places around us, one park and one volunteer day at a time, we can build a stronger and more environmentally conscious community.
