Ultimate Restoration Unlimited (URU), Inc. Project
"Ultimate Restoration Unlimited (URU) will implement the South LA Climate Action & Community Restoration Day during Earth Month 2026, mobilizing a minimum of 75 volunteers to participate in a coordinated, high-impact environmental service event focused on waste reduction, organic waste diversion, and community greening.
This project will take place in South Los Angeles, a community disproportionately impacted by illegal dumping, limited access to green space, and urban heat conditions. URU will leverage its established environmental workforce programs and community partnerships to execute a structured volunteer-driven initiative that produces immediate and measurable climate outcomes.
Volunteers will be organized into specialized teams with clearly defined roles to ensure efficiency and accountability:
1. Waste Reduction Team: Conduct targeted litter abatement in high-need corridors, focusing on illegal dumping zones and heavily impacted public spaces
2. Organic Waste Diversion Team: Collect, separate, and divert organic materials for composting, reducing landfill waste and supporting sustainable practices
3. Community Greening Team: Install native and drought-tolerant plants to improve neighborhood green space, enhance biodiversity, and reduce urban heat impacts
4. Restoration & Beautification Team: Improve the visual and environmental quality of community spaces to promote long-term stewardship and community pride
The event will follow a structured implementation model including volunteer check-in, orientation, safety briefing, team deployment, supervised service activity, and final data collection to ensure accurate reporting of outcomes.
Anticipated measurable climate outcomes include:
Engagement of 75+ volunteers
Removal of 1,000–1,500 pounds of waste
Diversion of 200–300 pounds of organic waste
Planting of 50–75 native and drought-tolerant plants
Activation and improvement of 1–2 community sites
In addition to direct service, URU will incorporate a brief environmental education component to increase volunteer awareness of sustainable practices, including waste reduction, composting, and the role of urban greening in climate resilience.
This project builds upon URU’s ongoing environmental programs, demonstrating the organization’s capacity to successfully recruit volunteers, manage operations, and deliver measurable environmental impact.
