California Climate Action Now! Community Greening Event.
"California Climate Action Now! (CAN!) will host a volunteer workday at the Sunset Boulevard Biodiversity Park (Ortega-Pacheco at 37th Ave, San Francisco) on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 10 am–2 pm, timed to coincide with the Outer Sunset Farmers Market for maximum community visibility and volunteer turnout. This community-driven California native habitat restoration site features a California Floristic Province native garden, 1,500 sq ft of native wildflowers, 35 native trees, and pollinator-supporting plantings that serve bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. With 75 volunteers, tasks will include weeding and invasive species removal, mulching, native plant and wildflower bed maintenance, watering, and general site upkeep across the park's diverse garden zones. The park currently has no dedicated maintenance funding, making regular volunteer workdays essential to the survival of these plantings and the long-term ecological function of the site. This event will directly sustain habitat quality, restoration activities, protect prior planting investments, and maintain pollinator forage and native biodiversity in an urban corridor in the western neighborhoods of San Francisco. Volunteers will also gain hands-on environmental education about California native plant ecology and coastal scrub restoration, reinforcing community stewardship of the space. "
