Half of the U.S. population reports feeling lonely, per the U.S. Surgeon General's Advisory on the Epidemic of Loneliness, with severe health risks comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. More than half of Americans are disconnected from their communities and say they don’t know their neighbors.
