City of Pico Rivera Office of Sustainability Project
"The City of Pico Rivera will host its annual Earth Day event on April 18, 2026, at Rio Hondo Park, located at 8421 San Luis Potosi, Pico Rivera, CA 90660. The event includes three main components: 1.) Community Clean-Up and Tree Planting Activity; 2.) Collection Drive Thru(i.e., paper shredding, e-waste and textile collection, and compost/mulch free giveaway); and, 3) Activity Booths and Presentations.
Volunteers will conduct a park and neighborhood clean-up to remove litter, recyclable materials, and improperly disposed waste from public spaces and waterways. Additionally, a separate team of volunteers with the guidance of the Community Based Organization (CBO), San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corp, will assist with planting trees to expand urban canopy coverage, improve air quality, reduce urban heat island effects, and support long-term carbon sequestration.
The Collection Drive Thru will provide residents with an opportunity to properly dispose of bulky items and recyclable materials, including paper shredding and textiles, helping divert waste from landfills. Activity booths and presentations will focus on environmental education, waste reduction, urban greening, and sustainable practices residents can implement at home.
Anticipated climate outcomes include increased waste diversion, expanded urban tree canopy, reduced greenhouse gas emissions associated with landfill waste, improved community awareness of climate solutions, and stronger community engagement in local sustainability efforts."
